Renewable Energy Tax Credit… and Updates!

New York State Financial Incentives

New York State is back again offering a small wind incentive for residential wind turbines. This application, however, expires on June 30th. Please check out their website for any updates for New York.

This month, there is a notice on the NYSERDA website stating: NYSERDA funding for the Small Wind Incentive Program (PON 1098) has been fully committed. NYSERDA is no longer accepting applications for this program.

What this means to us

There is no longer a waiting period for New York State residents who wish to have Trehab install the Skystream 3.7™ wind turbine. The 30% Federal Tax Credit is still available. Check out Windenergy.com.

How do I claim the credit?

You will be required to file the long form and itemize your deductions. The IRS form 5695 must be completed and filed with your taxes.

What else is new?

NEW! Caps are coming off the utility rates

PPL dropped their caps as of December 31, 2009 and most of the others in our region will drop next Fall. Check out this PDF format report from Citizens for Pennsylvania’s Future (PennFuture), Special Edition Rate Caps and Customer Choice December 2009.

Two things you need to know when shopping for a new utility rate. The transmission and distribution lines still belong to your existing utility; you can only shop for lower generation charges. Thus, if you change, you will receive two bills and two administration charges. Also, there might be a fee for early cancelations if you change your mind. Be vigilant!
