Skystream 3.7™ is a residential wind turbine designed from the start for homeowners looking for a quite, convenient, affordable way to protect themselves from ever increasing electricity costs. The Skystream, developed by Southwest Windpower in collaboration with the US Department of Energy’s National Renewable Energy Lab, has unique curved blades for quiet operation. It is the first backyard-sized wind turbine that includes a built-in inverter and requires no external components. Find Out More InformationHow does Skystream™ work? This generator kicks in to action in an 8 mph wind, and runs efficiently at 12-20 mph winds. The SkyStream 3.7™ connects into the electric grid, so you are never without power. For customers who wish to monitor their Skystream, there is a optional (free) monitoring device called Skyview 2.0 for their use. This device is complimentary and not under any warranty or service agreements. Visit Skystream's™ website for more information on the residential wind product and this monitoring device.
What is residential wind power? The Skystream 3.7™ is a breakthrough in new generation of Residential Power Appliances. Its universal inverter delivers power compatible with any utility grid from 110-240 VAC. An average family of 4 uses approximately 950 kilowatt hours per month. The Skystream, with a good wind source, can provide an average of 20%-80% of your energy needs. Any extra energy is fed into the grid spinning the meter backward. How do I determine if the Skystream 3.7™ is right for me?You need at least a 10 mph average wind speed on property that is greater than .5 acres and is unobstructed. Deciduous trees (trees that lose their leaves) are not so much a problem as pine trees. We look for West, Northwest, North, Northeast clearances as this is where you will get most of your wind from September to April. You need to contact your local municipalities and/or townships to discuss any zoning ordinances that might effect the installation of the wind turbine. Most local zoning agencies do not include wind generators in the ordinances yet. We do have samples that they can incorporate in their regulations if they wish. Your local utility will have an existing interconnection agreement so that they can connect your Skystream to the electric grid. You will need to provide us with your account number, meter number, and the average yearly kwh that you currently use for us to complete the interconnect forms. It has been our experience that utilities are very satisfied with the efficiency of the Skystream 3.7™.
